As an Occupational Therapist, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:
- Provide occupational therapy to students unable to perform daily tasks due to an illness or injury.
- Work with a team of nurses, CNAs, PTs and SLPs to provide excellent patient care
- Assist in evaluation of patient function, deficits, fall risks and adaptive equipment needs
- Assess student, establish therapy goals, document progress and modify therapy as needed
- Assist student with exercises to improve fine motor skills and coordination
- Educate students and family on established goals, exercises, safety and self-care
A few must-haves for Occupational Therapists:
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and active OT license in VA
- Minimum of 3 years of occupational therapy experience in a medical facility
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of state and federal healthcare laws and regulations
- Good clinical judgment, strong interpersonal skills, resourceful and compassionate
